Host Families

Family is a big part of all of our lives; families are constantly surrounding and supporting each other, and so for English language students, being away from family in Malta for several months or weeks can be a challenge, and can take time to adjust to particularly for younger students. Understanding this, Leisure 1st carefully selects the ideal host families here in Malta.

Staying with host families in Malta provides a familiar and close-knit environment that is not so readily available in a hotel or self-catering apartment scenario. One can enjoy a comfortable and private room and bathroom and families and students can interact and indulge in leisure activities such as going to the beach or the cinema during their free time away from the classroom. All of these activities are not only enriching, but are the perfect opportunity for these students to learn and practise their new English language skills in a natural daily environment without any academic pressures. This puts these English language students at a favourable advantage over students who choose to stay with students of their own nationality.

All host families in Malta available through Lesiure 1st are carefully selected after a detailed interview with our staff and once we have got to know them, other family members in the house, and observed the style of accommodation and other benefits that they can offer. Hygiene and food standards of all of our potential host families are checked to ensure maximum satisfaction for our students, giving them the best possible English learning and leisure experience whilst in Malta.

Typically, our host families have private houses or maisonettes in the North of Malta including Bugibba and Qawra, within easy reach of the nearby English languages schools either by means of public transport or a short leisurely walk. These locations are picturesque and safe and provide a host of activities of students for all ages, from a stunning promenade to shops and cafes, the National Aquarium, a cinema, water sports and other recreational facilities.

Many of our host families have plenty of experience with English language students, having hosting them for many years. All of our host families in Malta are English-speaking but many often speak a third language also. Host families can assist and advise students on what activities are in the local area and can suggest places of interest and how to get there.

Benefit from the hospitality of the Maltese locals and indulge in some off-the-beaten-track activities with your host family and you will not be disappointed.
